Holidaying along the Ruta del Sol

We left peaceful Finca Punta Ayampe yesterday and headed to Montañita, hedonistic surfer town, for some fun fun fun. Last night we had a big night out, hitting up cocktail row – a lane full of wooden stall after wooden stall, a line of about 20 on each side, serving up delicious fresh fruit strong liquor refreshment. It’s a place with a single high-end hotel but it’s great for backpackers’ hostels with hammocks on the beach, cheerful bars and tasty cheap seafood. I ate five plates of king prawns in less than two days.

My, what a big board you have!

My, what a big board you have!

Today we’ve been out in the sea, surfing and boogie boarding. I’m over my romantic idea of being a surfer, looking hot throughout running down the beach in my bikini and shorts, my board under my arm, diving in the sea and catching a few waves. When I have kids I’ll encourage them to be surfers but for me, I’m getting much more immediate pleasure out of boogieing.

Boogie-on!

Boogie-on!

Tomorrow, one adventure ends but another begins. Leaving Ecuador will be sad, three months just doesn’t seem long enough. We didn’t get to go to Misahualli, Baños, Canoa, Mompiche, Loja, Cuenca. But we’ll be back, hopefully, in December. In the mean time; here we come Guatemala and Central America!
